„But why would anyone be interested in my life? Countless other people had similar ones.“ As actress Elfriede Irrall tells her mother she would like to make a film about her in 1977, the latter is sceptical at first, but soon warms to the idea of having a conversation in front of the camera. In an astonishingly open manner, Irrall’s mother speaks of her life in Vienna, of National Socialism, of the constraints of family and the desire for liberation, of love and sexuality. Irrall comes up with associative and poetic imagery – gestures drawn from everyday life, places of remembrance, family photographs – to accompany this narrative, creating a multi-layered work in the process, one whose brisance and relevance to our own age are incomparable.
